Can you believe we’ve been in Colorado for nearly 4 years and have never made it to Steamboat Springs? Unreal.
But the good news is that we finally made it!
This summer, we managed to score a weekend campsite at Steamboat Lake State Park and it gave us the perfect opportunity to plan an adventure.
We headed up after work on a Friday and got all settled in to our campsite in time to watch the beautiful sunset around us.
The next morning, we woke up and made our way to Saddleback Ranch for a trail ride. This was the first time either of us had been on a horse in years and it was amazing. The horses were great, our group was friendly and our lead did an excellent job giving us history of the area and taking us on a nice stroll. We even got a little stream crossing - which all our internal cowboys were loving.
From there, we headed to town and got changed before grabbing some lunch at Salt & Lime - a delicious Mexican restaurant downtown Steamboat Springs. After eating, we wandered around the town and made our way to the river. It was a hot one that day - so any amount of water was ideal. We laughed as we watched people on tubes going by and having fun. Then after a while, we threw on our swim suits and got in a little higher on the river that’s near the hot springs. The water felt amazing and was exactly what we needed.
We checked the time and realized we could start getting ready to head to the rodeo!
Steamboat has a beautiful rodeo arena and a big barbecue dinner beforehand. We were also able to enjoy some live music as we hung out. Eventually, we headed to the stands and got ready for the show to begin.
Once the rodeo was pretty well wrapped up, we headed out to drive back to the campground and settle in for the night. When we got there, the sky was completely clear, so we enjoyed star gazing for a bit. There’s hardly any light pollution at the campground and it was so beautiful.
Then we got all tucked in and drifted off to bed. Our goal was to wake up early enough to go paddle boarding the next morning, but we decided to just hit the road for a 3 hour drive home so Michael could get ready for work the next day and we’d have some time to relax.
Overall, it was a fantastic weekend! I wish it hadn’t been as hot, I feel like that kind of kept us from doing some things, but getting to enjoy the river was a huge plus - so it worked out!
Now I can’t wait to return in the winter for a snowboard weekend.
Live big.
