Climb Iowa

2017 has been an absolute blur for me. It's been full of changes and adventures. Now that things are starting to wind down for the year, I wanted to take a moment to write about one of my current favorite places to spend a bit a time during the week.

I first started rock wall climbing as a freshman in college. It was a hobby that was fun and challenging, but throughout my years at the University of Northern Iowa, I slowly started slacking and stopped going to the wall. Over the past couple months, I started going to Climb Iowa in Grimes almost weekly.

About Climb Iowa

Climb Iowa first opened its doors in 2008. Since then they've worked to maintain a high quality climbing experience that is always keeping up with the changing landscape of the sport. Climb Iowa has over 100 top rope courses, several auto belay routes and two different bouldering areas throughout the gym. They offer courses to improve your climbing technique and learn how to properly use the equipment. No matter your experience or skill level, there's something you can do here. Why Should You Try Climbing?

As I mentioned earlier, climbing is a sport that is fun and challenging. Muscles used during climbing are the forearms, biceps, back, abdominals and legs. Not only are you challenging your body during a climb, it is also working your mind. Whether you are climbing in a gym or outdoors, you have to look at the route at hand and find a solution to get to the top. This means looking for areas that you can hold on to, place your feet or even places that you can pause to take a quick break mid-climb. If you've never tried it out before, Climb Iowa would be a great place to start.

Do you have a favorite indoor climbing gym? Let me know by sending me a message.

Live big.
